Gladly vs Zendesk: which is better?
Pick Gladly if you are a large retail or consumer brand that wants one AI to serve and sell, a voice AI agent, and a customer-centered timeline instead of tickets. Pick Zendesk if you want published prices, a self-serve trial, ticketing depth and a helpdesk that fits almost any industry.
Gladly organizes support around the person: every conversation with a customer, across channels, sits in one ongoing timeline. Its 2026 direction is "agentic commerce", where the same AI answers service questions and recommends products. Zendesk organizes support around tickets: queues, SLAs, triggers and routing, with AI agents included on every plan and a large app marketplace.
On price the two work very differently. Zendesk lists plans from $19 to $115 per agent a month billed annually, plus $2.00 per extra AI resolution on pay-as-you-go. Gladly publishes no price list; its October 2026 press release says it prices on outcomes rather than seats, with no implementation fees.
If your main goal is to resolve more conversations with AI at a cost you can model, read the third option below.
How do Gladly and Zendesk compare side by side?
The largest gaps are price visibility, the data model (people versus tickets) and how far the AI goes into selling.
| Gladly | Zendesk | |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | Large retail and consumer brands that treat support as a long-term relationship | Support teams of any size and industry running ticket queues and SLAs |
| Core model | Customer-centered conversation timeline, no tickets in the customer's view | Ticketing system with omnichannel routing |

| AI agent pricing | Part of outcome-based pricing; 30-day performance guarantee per Gladly | 5 (Team plans) or 10 (Professional) automated resolutions per agent/mo included, then $2.00 each pay-as-you-go; committed volume costs less |

| AI for shoppers | Shopping Assistant and agentic commerce: one AI that recommends products and handles service | AI agents focus on service resolution |
| Voice AI | Voice AI agent; Gladly says it has handled over 14 million phone conversations | AI agents work across messaging, email and voice; native voice on Suite plans |
| Agent assist | Team Assist for human agents | Copilot add-on $50/agent/mo |

What are the main differences between Gladly and Zendesk?
Gladly is built for retail brands that want service and selling in one customer record. Zendesk is a general-purpose helpdesk built to process requests at scale.
People versus tickets
Gladly's conversation timeline shows every conversation with a customer, across channels, in a single thread, so an agent sees the whole history at a glance. Zendesk creates a ticket per request, each with an owner, status and SLA. Tickets suit teams that measure throughput and queue health; a timeline suits brands where the same shopper writes in many times a year.
AI scope
Gladly's 2026 launch puts product discovery, add-to-cart and service in one conversation, and Gladly says its AI is trained on more than 450 million retail interactions. Zendesk's AI agents focus on resolving service requests across messaging, email, voice and social in 80 languages, and Zendesk bills them per automated resolution.
Voice
Gladly sells a voice AI agent that it says answers in under a second and hands calls to people with context attached. Zendesk includes native voice on Suite plans and sells a Contact Center add-on at $83 per agent a month.
Routing
Gladly's People Match routes by VIP status, sentiment, skills, situation and dedicated agent, so returning customers can reach the same person. Zendesk offers omnichannel routing on Suite plans, with skills-based routing on Suite Professional.
Ecosystem
Gladly's integrations lean on retail: ecommerce platforms, subscriptions, returns, tracking and loyalty tools. Zendesk's marketplace is broader and covers SaaS, finance, IT and other industries. If you rely on a specific app, check both directories before you sign.
Buying process
Zendesk lets you start a 14-day trial and pay by card. Gladly is sold through a demo and quote; its press release says a typical launch takes about a week and there are no implementation fees.
Is Gladly or Zendesk cheaper?
We can't name a cheaper option for every team, because Gladly does not publish prices. Zendesk's list prices are public, so you can hold a Gladly quote against them.
| Zendesk plan | Annual | Monthly | AI resolutions included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Support Team | $19/agent | $25/agent | 5 per agent/mo |
| Suite Team | $55/agent | $69/agent | 5 per agent/mo |
| Suite Professional | $115/agent | $149/agent | 10 per agent/mo |
| Suite Enterprise | Contact sales | By quote | |
Checked October 2026 on zendesk.com/pricing. Extra resolutions are $2.00 each pay-as-you-go, less with a commitment. Add-ons include Copilot ($50/agent), Workforce Engagement ($50/agent) and Contact Center ($83/agent).
Gladly: no price list. Gladly describes its pricing as subscription software based on outcomes rather than seats, with no implementation fees, and offers a guarantee: if its AI does not beat your current AI on conversion, resolution rate and customer satisfaction within 30 days, you pay nothing. Ask what counts as an outcome, whether voice and the Shopping Assistant are priced separately, and what the minimum term is.
Worked example: 10 agents, 4,000 conversations a month
Assumptions: 10 human agents, annual billing, AI resolving 2,000 of 4,000 monthly conversations, no add-ons. List prices only.
- Zendesk Suite Professional: 10 x $115 = $1,150. 100 resolutions are included; the other 1,900 at $2.00 pay-as-you-go add $3,800. About $4,950 a month, less if you commit to a resolution volume.
- Zendesk Suite Team: 10 x $55 = $550, 50 included resolutions, 1,950 x $2.00 = $3,900. About $4,450 a month.
- Gladly: ask for a quote at the same volume, at your peak month and at a lower AI share, then compare cost per conversation.
At this volume the AI resolutions cost more than the seats on Zendesk, which is why the per-resolution rate matters more than the seat price. Our Zendesk pricing guide breaks down every plan and add-on.
Should your team pick Gladly or Zendesk?
Choose by industry, buying process and how much you want AI to sell.
- Large retail and DTC brands with repeat shoppers: Gladly. The lifelong timeline, People Match routing and retail integrations fit brands like those Gladly lists, such as Nordstrom and Ulta Beauty.
- Brands that want AI to drive sales in chat: Gladly, through its Shopping Assistant and agentic commerce.
- Phone-heavy retail teams that want AI to answer calls: Gladly's voice AI agent.
- SaaS, fintech, IT and services teams: Zendesk. Its ticketing model and marketplace cover far more industries.
- Small and mid-size teams: Zendesk, which you can trial and buy without a sales call, from $19 per agent.
- Finance teams that need a predictable model before talking to sales: Zendesk, because its prices are public.
Where each one is the wrong fit
Gladly is a weaker pick if you are not a retail brand, want to start small, or need to model costs before a demo. Zendesk is a weaker pick if your AI resolution volume is high and you want to avoid $2.00 pay-as-you-go resolutions, or if you want one AI that both sells and serves.
Is there a third option besides Gladly and Zendesk?
Yes. If you are comparing Gladly and Zendesk mainly to resolve more conversations with AI, consider Aftersales. It is an AI customer service platform with an AI Agent that resolves conversations end to end and takes actions, a shared Inbox for the conversations people handle, and Insights that run quality Monitors on every conversation.
Public pricing. Free ($0), Starter $24, Growth $69 and Scale $109 per seat a month billed annually, with a 14-day free trial. Agent costs $0.99 per resolution on every plan, counted once per conversation however many questions it contained. Conversations Agent can't help with are free, and Agent never needs a seat.
Actions with guardrails. Agent can look up and verify Shopify orders, create replacements, issue Stripe refunds and work with Salesforce, within spend limits and escalation rules triggered by sentiment, keywords, customer tier or legal language. Other systems connect through the Aftersales API or webhooks. Median resolution after 90 days is 71%, and Northwind Outdoors, a DTC outdoor brand, cut cost per conversation by 41%.
Same worked example. On Growth, 10 x $69 = $690 in seats plus 2,000 resolutions x $0.99 = $1,980 is $2,670 a month, against about $4,950 on Zendesk Suite Professional at pay-as-you-go rates.
Already on Zendesk? Agent on its own runs inside Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud or Freshdesk with no seats and no migration, at $0.99 per resolution with a minimum monthly commitment.
Test it on your own conversations. Start free and see what Agent resolves before you sign a helpdesk contract.
Aftersales does not offer an AI voice agent or a shopping assistant, so Gladly is still the better pick if you need AI to answer calls or sell. Zendesk remains the stronger choice for very large ticketing operations that depend on its marketplace. See our Gladly alternative and Zendesk alternative pages, or Aftersales pricing.
How did we compare Gladly and Zendesk?
We read each vendor's own pricing, product, security and integration pages in October 2026, plus Gladly's October 2026 press release, and used list prices with annual billing. We did not use reviews or third-party price lists. Where a vendor asks you to contact sales, such as all Gladly pricing and Zendesk Suite Enterprise, we say so instead of estimating.
