Intercom vs HubSpot Service Hub: which is better?
Pick Intercom if support is a product in its own right: chat and in-app messaging, a mature AI agent and a helpdesk built for support teams. Pick HubSpot Service Hub if your company already runs marketing and sales on HubSpot and you want service on the same customer records.
Intercom is a messenger-first support platform. Fin, its AI agent, sits at the center and is priced at $0.99 per outcome on every plan. Its helpdesk starts at $29 per seat a month on annual billing.
Service Hub is the support part of HubSpot's customer platform. Its strengths are the shared CRM, a customer success workspace and a cheaper AI agent: Customer Agent costs $0.50 per resolution. The catch is access. HubSpot says Professional or Enterprise is required for Customer Agent, and Professional starts at $90 per seat a month plus a required one-time $1,500 onboarding fee.
Neither is better for everyone. The deciding question is usually where your customer data lives today, and whether you want support to sit next to sales and marketing or run as its own tool.

What are the main differences between Intercom and HubSpot Service Hub?
The short version: Intercom is built around the conversation, Service Hub is built around the CRM record.
Support-first vs CRM-first
Intercom's helpdesk, messenger and help center were designed for support teams. Essential includes the messenger, a shared inbox, ticketing, pre-built reports and a help center; Advanced adds workflows, round-robin assignment, multiple inboxes and a multilingual help center; Expert adds SSO, HIPAA support, SLAs and multibrand messenger and help center.
Service Hub puts tickets, conversations, feedback and customer success on the same HubSpot records your sales and marketing teams use. That is its biggest advantage. A rep can see deals, emails and marketing history next to a ticket without an integration. The trade-off is that the help desk is configured through CRM objects, pipelines and properties, which some support teams find heavier to set up.
AI agents
Both vendors price their AI agents on outcomes. Intercom lists Fin at $0.99 per outcome on every plan, including Essential, and says you never pay if Fin cannot answer. Fin works across chat, email, voice, social and Slack, and runs multi-step tasks through what Intercom calls Procedures, according to the Fin site.
HubSpot lists Customer Agent at $0.50 per messaging resolution and $0.50 per voice minute on its Customer Agent page, and says it can take action in your CRM, Shopify and other tools. It works across chat, email, forms, calling, WhatsApp and Messenger. The per-resolution price is about half of Fin's, but you need a Professional or Enterprise seat to use it.
Running the AI on the other tool
One detail matters if you are torn: Intercom sells Fin for other helpdesks, and HubSpot is on its list. A HubSpot customer can keep Service Hub and add Fin at $0.99 per outcome with a monthly minimum and no Intercom seats. There is no equivalent the other way round.
Proactive and in-app messaging
Intercom's Proactive Support Plus add-on ($99 a month for 500 messages) covers product tours, surveys, in-app messages and push. HubSpot's outbound strength sits in Marketing Hub instead, which is a separate product and a separate bill.
Is Intercom or HubSpot Service Hub cheaper?
HubSpot is usually cheaper for small teams that do not need an AI agent, and cheaper per AI resolution at high volume. Intercom is cheaper to start with AI, because Fin works on its $29 plan with no onboarding fee.
- Intercom (Intercom pricing page): Essential $29, Advanced $85, Expert $132 per seat/month billed annually; Intercom says annual billing saves up to 26%. Fin $0.99 per outcome. Copilot $29 per agent/month annual. Pro add-on from $99 a month. WhatsApp, SMS and phone are usage-based. Advanced includes 20 free Lite seats, Expert 50.
- HubSpot Service Hub (Service Hub pricing page): Free for up to 2 users. Starter $20 per seat/month list (a lower promotional price was showing when we checked). Professional $90 per seat/month, with a required $1,500 onboarding fee. Enterprise $150 per seat/month, with a required $3,500 onboarding fee. Extra HubSpot Credits cost $0.010 each, and included credits reset monthly. Customer Agent $0.50 per resolution.
Worked example: 10 agents with an AI agent
Assumptions: 10 human agents on the mid tier, 1,000 AI resolutions a month, list prices, annual billing, no channel usage fees.
| Cost line | Intercom Advanced | HubSpot Professional |
|---|---|---|
| Seats | 10 x $85 = $850 | 10 x $90 = $900 |
| AI agent | 1,000 x $0.99 = $990 | 1,000 x $0.50 = $500 |
| Monthly total | $1,840 | $1,400 |
| One-time fees | None listed | $1,500 onboarding |
| First-year total | $22,080 | $18,300 |

At this volume HubSpot is about $3,800 cheaper in year one, even after onboarding. The gap closes when AI volume is low: with 100 AI resolutions a month, Intercom Advanced costs $949 a month against HubSpot's $950 plus the onboarding fee. Add Copilot on Intercom and its total rises by $290 a month. Check how HubSpot meters your AI features in credits before you compare them line by line.
Small team without an AI agent
For 3 agents who only need a shared inbox, HubSpot Starter at its $20 list price is $60 a month and Intercom Essential is $87. HubSpot's Free plan covers 2 users at $0. Neither entry plan is the full product, so check which channels and automations you lose before you settle on the cheapest line.
Should your team pick Intercom or HubSpot Service Hub?
Match the tool to how your company already works.
- Your company runs on HubSpot CRM: Service Hub. Shared records with sales and marketing are hard to replicate with an integration.
- SaaS with in-app users and product tours: Intercom. The messenger and proactive tools are its home ground. See support for SaaS.
- Customer success and renewals matter as much as tickets: Service Hub, for the customer success workspace and health scores.
- You want an AI agent now on a small budget: Intercom, because Fin works on Essential with no onboarding fee.
- High AI volume, already on Professional: Service Hub, where $0.50 per resolution adds up to real savings.
- Staying on HubSpot but want Fin: add Fin to Service Hub through Intercom's helpdesk integration.

Is there a third option besides Intercom and HubSpot?
Yes. If you want support built around an AI agent that takes actions, without a CRM suite or a required onboarding fee, Aftersales is a third option. Agent resolves conversations end to end, Copilot drafts replies that cite their sources, Inbox is one queue for AI and humans, and Insights runs quality Monitors on every conversation.
| Feature | Aftersales |
|---|---|
| Pricing | Free $0 (1 seat); Starter $24, Growth $69, Scale $109 per seat/month billed annually; 14-day free trial |
| AI agent | Agent on every plan, including Free (first 50 resolutions free); $0.99 per resolution, counted once per conversation; free when it can't help |
| Actions | Shopify order lookup, verification and replacements; Stripe refunds; Salesforce; other systems through the API or webhooks, with spend limits |
| Guardrails | Escalation on sentiment, keywords, customer tier or legal language; brand voice and banned phrases |
| Channels | Email, web and in-app chat, WhatsApp, SMS, social DMs, Slack Connect; phone with transfers and recording on Growth and up |
| Security | GDPR DPA, US-hosted, HIPAA with a BAA on Enterprise; SSO, SAML and SCIM on Scale |

Be clear about the trade-offs. Aftersales is not a CRM and not a customer success platform, so if your company lives in HubSpot, Service Hub keeps everything on one record. HubSpot's Customer Agent is cheaper per resolution ($0.50 against $0.99). Aftersales Agent on its own runs inside Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud or Freshdesk, not HubSpot; HubSpot data reaches Aftersales through the API or webhooks, so confirm specific connectors on a call. Aftersales is also a newer platform with a smaller ecosystem than either vendor.
Where it fits: teams whose top contacts are refunds, replacements and order questions, and who want the AI to act inside spend limits rather than only answer. Median resolution is 71% of conversations after 90 days, and Northwind Outdoors cut cost per conversation by 41%. See pricing, customer stories and how to measure resolution rate.
