Essential suits small teams that need a shared inbox and messenger. Advanced adds more automation and workflow depth, and Expert targets larger teams with more security and admin controls.
What does Intercom charge on top of seats?
The seat price is only part of the bill. The biggest variable is Fin.
- Fin AI agent: $0.99 per outcome on every plan. At 2,000 outcomes a month that is $1,980, often more than the seats.
- Copilot: $29 per agent per month billed annually, or $35 monthly.
- Pro add-on: $99 per month, which includes analysis of 1,000 conversations and 2,000 credits.
- Proactive Support Plus: $99 per month including 500 messages.
- Fin standalone: runs without seats at $0.99 per outcome but carries a minimum monthly commitment.
Budget Fin separately from seats and model it at your expected automation rate, not at today's volume.
What does Intercom cost for 5, 10 and 25 seats?
Assumptions: Advanced plan billed annually, Fin handling 500, 1,000 and 2,500 outcomes a month respectively, no add-ons. For comparison, Aftersales Growth at $69 per seat with Agent at $0.99 per resolution at the same volumes.
| Team | Intercom seats | Fin outcomes | Intercom total/mo | Aftersales Growth total/mo |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 seats | $425 | $495 | $920 | $840 ($345 + $495) |
| 10 seats | $850 | $990 | $1,840 | $1,680 ($690 + $990) |
| 25 seats | $2,125 | $2,475 | $4,600 | $4,200 ($1,725 + $2,475) |

Per-resolution AI pricing is the same $0.99 on both, so the gap comes from seats. Adding Copilot for everyone costs $29 per agent on either product, which does not change the gap.

Is Intercom worth the price?
Intercom is worth it for teams that want a polished messenger, strong product tours and in-app messaging, and a mature Fin agent with a large ecosystem. It is still the better pick if in-app engagement for a SaaS product matters as much as support, or if your team already runs many Intercom workflows.
It is harder to justify when most of the bill is seats for agents who mostly answer email, or when you want order actions such as refunds and replacements handled by the AI.
What are cheaper alternatives to Intercom?
Aftersales combines an AI agent, Copilot, a shared Inbox and Insights. Plans are Free ($0, 1 seat, first 50 Agent resolutions free), Starter $24, Growth $69 and Scale $109 per seat per month billed annually (20% more monthly). Agent costs $0.99 per resolution on every plan, counted once per conversation, and conversations Agent cannot help with are free. Lite seats are free (20 on Growth, 50 on Scale). There is a 14-day free trial. See full pricing.
Aftersales Agent can also run on its own inside Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud or Freshdesk with no seats or migration, at $0.99 per resolution with a minimum monthly commitment. It takes actions in Shopify (verify order, order actions, replacements), Stripe refunds and Salesforce.
Other options: Freshdesk for low per-agent prices, Tidio for small-business live chat, and Gorgias for Shopify stores. See the full list of Intercom alternatives.
