The eDesk alternative for AI-first ecommerce support

Aftersales gives ecommerce and service teams an AI Agent that resolves conversations and takes actions, a shared inbox for every channel and real-time Insights. eDesk is a strong choice for multi-marketplace sellers. Here is how they compare on price, AI and fit. Plans are on the pricing page.

eDesk vs Aftersales: what is the short answer?

Choose eDesk if most of your support arrives through marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Walmart or Mirakl and you want those channels connected out of the box. Choose Aftersales if you sell mainly through your own store, want a free plan and lower seat prices, and need an AI Agent that can refund through Stripe, create Shopify replacements and hand off with full context.

eDesk is still operating under its own name. Its about page says the company was founded as xSellco and rebranded as eDesk in 2021, lists a global headquarters in New York with offices in Dublin, London, Cork and Derry, and says it powers over 50 million conversations a month. We found no notice of an acquisition, rename or shutdown on its site in October 2026.

Why do teams look for an eDesk alternative?

Teams usually compare eDesk with other tools when their support stops being mainly marketplace messages, or when the seat bill grows faster than the team's workload. eDesk was built for sellers on Amazon and eBay, and its pricing page reflects that: plans are sized by how many online stores and marketplaces you connect.

  • Store limits by plan. Essential connects 1 online store or marketplace, Growth 5 and Professional 10. A brand that adds a second webstore or a new marketplace has to move up a tier, checked October 2026.
  • Higher seat prices on the middle tiers. Growth is $89 and Professional $119 per user a month on annual billing ($115 and $149 monthly). Aftersales Growth is $69 and Scale is $109.
  • Reporting and CSAT start on Growth. Ticket, agent and channel reports and CSAT surveys are not on Essential, and the plan comparison also marks rule-based automations as not included on Essential.
  • AI for reps is an add-on. Summaries, sentiment, classifications, suggested replies and the AI composer sit in the AI Assist add-on, and translation is a separate add-on. eDesk does not publish prices for either.
  • Developer access sits on Enterprise. The advanced REST API, custom integrations and condition-based webhooks are listed only on the custom-priced Enterprise plan.
  • No free plan. eDesk offers a 14-day trial in a "Safe Mode" where messages are not stored or sent, then you choose a paid plan.

None of this makes eDesk a weak product. These are the points where a marketplace-first helpdesk and a DTC or service team's needs pull apart.

What should you look for in an eDesk alternative?

Start with where your conversations come from. If most arrive from marketplaces, connectors matter more than anything else. If most arrive by email, chat and messaging from your own store, look at how much the AI can finish on its own and what each finished conversation costs.

  • Actions, not only answers. Can the AI verify an order, create a replacement or issue a refund, inside limits you set? See how Agent takes actions.
  • A clear billing definition. eDesk and Aftersales both charge $0.99, but they count different things. Ask exactly when a charge happens.
  • Guardrails. Spend limits and escalation on sentiment, keywords, customer tier or legal language.
  • Channels in one queue. Email, chat, WhatsApp, SMS, phone and social DMs in one shared inbox.
  • Reporting on every plan. Resolution rate, cost per conversation and CSAT for AI and humans. See Insights.
  • API access without an enterprise contract, if you connect your own systems.

How much does eDesk cost in 2026?

eDesk charges per user per month, plus $0.99 for each AI Agent outcome. Checked October 2026 on its pricing page, Essential is $39, Growth $89 and Professional $119 per user a month billed annually, or $49, $115 and $149 billed monthly. Enterprise is custom priced.

What does eDesk count as an outcome?

eDesk says an outcome is charged once per ticket when its AI Agent "actually answers your customer or takes real action on their behalf", such as replying with tracking or making a call on a return or cancellation. If the AI does nothing, there is no charge. Aftersales counts a resolution only when Agent closes the conversation without a person taking over; if it escalates, the AI part is free. Ask eDesk whether a ticket where the AI replied and a person still had to step in counts as an outcome.

Add-ons

AI Assist, Translate and Feedback are add-ons on every plan, without public prices. Voice is an add-on through eDesk Talk or Aircall; the eDesk Talk page points to Aircall for call recording and transfers. eDesk also notes that some channels, including live chat and some social channels, may carry additional fees.

How much does Aftersales cost?

Aftersales is free for 1 seat, then $24, $69 or $109 per seat a month billed annually on Starter, Growth and Scale. Monthly billing is 20% more. Agent costs $0.99 per resolution on every plan, counted once per conversation, and conversations it can't help with are free. Agent never needs a seat.

How does Aftersales compare with eDesk feature by feature?

The two products charge the same headline AI price. The differences are seat prices, what each plan includes, which channels connect natively, and how the AI's charge is defined.

When is eDesk the better choice?

eDesk is the better pick for several kinds of sellers, and it is worth being plain about it.

  • You sell on many marketplaces. eDesk connects Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Mirakl, Kaufland and nearly 300 marketplaces, and says it is the only support provider on the Amazon and Walmart developer councils. Aftersales would connect these through its API or webhooks, which is more work.
  • You sell on Mirakl-powered marketplaces. eDesk lists Mirakl operator collaboration as unique to eDesk.
  • Pre-sales questions drive revenue. eDesk has a pre-sales mailbox and tracks revenue from resolved pre-sale questions (with AI Assist).
  • You want review requests in the same tool. The Feedback add-on sends review requests to Google, Trustpilot and marketplaces.
  • You want vendor support around the clock. eDesk lists 24/7 phone and chat support on every plan, plus a 30-day guarantee that you don't pay the base subscription if your workload does not start to fall.

If that describes your business, stay on eDesk or shortlist it. If your volume is mostly your own store's email, chat and messaging, read on.

What does Aftersales cost compared with eDesk?

At list prices on annual billing, Aftersales is cheaper at every matching tier because its seats cost less and the AI price is the same. Example assumptions: 5 reps, 2,000 conversations a month, AI resolving 1,000 of them, one webstore.

TierAftersaleseDesk

Where the math changes

  • Phone. Aftersales Growth includes phone with transfers and recording. On eDesk, add eDesk Talk or Aircall.
  • Monthly billing. eDesk Growth is $115 monthly; Aftersales Growth is about $82.80. For 5 reps that is $575 against $414 before AI.
  • Escalated conversations. If eDesk charges when its AI replies on a ticket a person later finishes, its AI line will be higher than the example. Aftersales charges nothing for those.
  • Marketplace connections. eDesk's per-seat price includes marketplace integrations. Budget build time if you connect them to Aftersales through the API.

The number to compare is cost per resolved conversation. Aftersales customers reach a median 71% resolution after 90 days, and Northwind Outdoors cut cost per conversation by 41% (customer stories). The resolution rate guide shows how to measure it.

How does Aftersales Agent handle a post-purchase request?

Agent reads intent, entities, sentiment and language from the first message, follows the procedure you wrote, takes the action through a connected system, then closes the conversation or hands off with everything it found. Example, for a store on Shopify:

  1. Customer writes: "My jacket arrived torn. Can I get a new one?"
  2. Agent verifies the order in Shopify and checks it against your plain-language replacement procedure.
  3. Agent acts within limits. Under the value limit you set, it creates the replacement or issues a Stripe refund. Above it, it escalates.
  4. Escalation rules apply throughout. Negative sentiment, legal language, a VIP tier or keywords you choose send it to a rep, with the order data and steps already tried attached.
  5. You pay once. A resolved conversation is one $0.99 resolution however many questions it held.

Reps pick up handoffs in Inbox, where Copilot drafts replies that cite their sources and translates across 31 languages. For order-status volume, see our WISMO guide.

How do you switch from eDesk to Aftersales?

Most teams finish migration in an afternoon, and Aftersales runs the migration with you on Growth and Scale. A typical sequence:

  1. List what eDesk connects today. Note every store, marketplace and channel. Anything beyond Shopify, Stripe and Salesforce connects through the Aftersales API or webhooks, so confirm specific connectors on a call.
  2. Export templates, tags and help articles and list the rules and SLAs you rely on.
  3. Connect channels. Forward support addresses and connect chat, WhatsApp, SMS, social and phone to Inbox.
  4. Load Knowledge. Import articles so Agent, Copilot and the help center answer from one source (Knowledge).
  5. Rebuild rules in Workflows. Assignment, tags, SLAs, Slack posts and Jira issues.
  6. Write Agent procedures for your top three request types, importing existing macros, and set spend limits and escalation rules.
  7. Run both for a week. Send a share of traffic to Aftersales, compare resolution rate and CSAT in Insights, then move the rest.
