What is multilingual customer support software?
Multilingual customer support software lets one team answer customers in their own language, using an AI agent that replies natively, machine translation for human reps, a help center published in several languages, or a mix of all three. The goal is that a customer writing in Portuguese gets a correct answer in Portuguese, even if nobody on shift speaks it.
Most tools now combine these approaches, but they weight them differently. Helpdesks lead with localized help centers and inbox translation; AI agents lead with native-language answers; translation layers sit inside an existing CRM. The table below shows the trade-offs.
| Approach | How it works | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multilingual AI agent | The AI detects the customer's language and answers in it, using knowledge written in one or more languages | High-volume, repeatable questions in your main markets | Language count varies a lot by vendor; check the languages you actually serve, not the headline number |
| Machine translation in the inbox | Customer messages are translated for the rep, and the rep's reply is translated back | Escalations and long-tail languages without native speakers on staff | Brand names, product terms and legal wording can be mistranslated; set a glossary or review rule |
| Machine translation plus human review | Translation is scored for quality and routed to a human editor when the risk is high | Regulated or high-stakes replies where wording matters | Usually sales-led pricing, and human review adds latency |
| Localized help center | Articles are published per language, so customers and AI read the same localized source | Self-service and AI accuracy in your top markets | Every article needs an owner per language, or translations drift out of date |

How did we compare multilingual customer support software?
We checked each vendor's own site, documentation and pricing page in October 2026. Language counts are the vendor's own figures, and they measure different things (AI replies, help center articles or translation), so read them per column. Where a vendor does not publish prices, we describe the model.
- AI agent languages: can the AI answer natively in the customer's language, and from which knowledge?
- Translation for reps: can a rep who speaks one language read and reply in another without leaving the ticket?
- Localized help center: can you publish articles per language, and does the AI use them?
- Quality control: glossaries, custom translations, human review, and escalation when a translation is risky.
- Pricing: seats, AI usage and translation fees, and which plan unlocks multilingual features.
The 9 best multilingual customer support software tools
1. Aftersales: best for teams that want an AI agent and a helpdesk that both work in the customer's language
Aftersales handles multilingual support in two layers. Agent understands intent, entities, sentiment and language from the first message in 31 languages, and answers from the same plain-language procedures you wrote once, so you do not keep a separate procedure per language. It also takes actions, such as verifying a Shopify order or issuing a Stripe refund within the spend limits you set.
When Agent hands off, the rep in the Inbox gets the conversation, the data Agent looked up and what it already tried. Copilot translates in 31 languages, including right-to-left scripts, and drafts replies that cite their sources. Every plan includes 10 Copilot and 10 translation conversations per rep per month; reps who translate all day need the Copilot add-on. Growth adds a private and multilingual help center fed by Knowledge, the same source Agent answers from.
Where it is weaker: 31 languages is fewer than Intercom Fin (over 75), Ada (60) or Language I/O (150+). If you serve long-tail languages, check the list first. If you must stay on Salesforce or Zendesk and only need translation, a translation layer such as Language I/O or Unbabel is the narrower fix, or you can run Aftersales Agent inside Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud or Freshdesk with no migration.
- Best for
- Teams in several markets that want one AI agent and one inbox working across languages, with actions and guardrails
- Pricing
- Free plan (1 seat, live chat + email inbox, first 50 Agent resolutions free). Starter $24, Growth $69, Scale $109 per seat/month billed annually; monthly is 20% more. Agent $0.99 per resolution, counted once per conversation; conversations Agent can't help with are free. Copilot $29/rep/month annual ($35 monthly). See pricing.
- Strengths
- Agent and Copilot in 31 languages; one set of procedures for every language; multilingual help center on Growth; escalation rules by sentiment, keywords, tier or legal language; GDPR DPA; US-hosted.
- Watch out for
- Fewer languages than the largest AI agents and translation layers; founded in 2024, so a smaller app ecosystem. Confirm niche integrations on a call.
2. Intercom: best for SaaS teams that want the widest AI agent language coverage in one product
Intercom's Fin AI Agent supports over 75 languages, including regional variants such as French (Canada) and German (Austria). An optional real-time translation setting lets Fin answer from content in your default language when nothing exists in the customer's language. For human teammates, AI Inbox Translation translates customer messages into the teammate's preferred language and their reply back into the customer's.
It is a better pick than Aftersales if you need languages outside our 31, or a product-led SaaS messenger with in-app tours. Note that the multilingual help center starts on Advanced, and SMS, WhatsApp and phone are billed on top.
- Best for
- Product-led SaaS teams with customers in many languages
- Pricing
- Essential $29, Advanced $85, Expert $132 per seat/month billed annually. Fin $0.99 per outcome. 14-day trial.
- Strengths
- Over 75 Fin languages; inbox translation both ways; multilingual help center on Advanced.
- Watch out for
- Multilingual help center not on Essential; channel usage billed separately. See Intercom pricing.
3. Zendesk: best for large teams that need a localized help center and a broad marketplace
Zendesk lists 40+ languages for help center content and the agent interface on Suite Professional. AI agents can automatically translate their messages, with custom translations where the automatic result gets brand or product names wrong, and human agents can use native translation inside Agent Workspace after a handoff. Zendesk has also announced multilingual voice AI agents in early access.
It is the safer choice for a large organization with many brands, a translation team and marketplace apps for localization. Zendesk notes that one of its AI agent setups is in legacy status and will be discontinued on December 10, 2026, so check which AI agent version you would be buying.
- Best for
- Large support orgs that maintain a help center in many languages
- Pricing
- Suite Team $55, Professional $115 per agent/month billed annually; Enterprise by quote. Automated resolutions: 5 per agent/month included on Team and Professional, then billed per resolution. Copilot $50/agent/month. See Zendesk pricing.
- Strengths
- 40+ help center languages; translation in Agent Workspace; large app marketplace.
- Watch out for
- Multi-language help center needs Suite Professional; help center articles still need translating per language. Aftersales Agent can run inside Zendesk if you want to keep it.
4. Ada: best for enterprises that want a standalone AI agent across chat, email and voice
Ada is an enterprise AI agent platform. Its documentation lists 60 languages with native response generation and knowledge ingestion in each, on messaging and email, with a subset available on voice. It detects the customer's language, lets them switch mid-conversation and can serve locale-specific articles, such as separate en-US and en-CA content.
Ada is a better fit than Aftersales for large enterprises that want an AI agent on voice in many languages and already run a separate contact center platform. It is not a helpdesk, so you still need one for the human team.
- Best for
- Enterprises adding a multilingual AI agent on top of an existing contact center
- Pricing
- Quote only.
- Strengths
- 60 languages on messaging and email; locale-aware knowledge; voice channel.
- Watch out for
- No public pricing; you need a separate helpdesk for your reps.
5. Freshdesk: best for an established helpdesk with built-in multilingual knowledge
Freshdesk includes a multilingual helpdesk on Pro and Enterprise, with knowledge base article translation. Freddy AI Copilot, an add-on for Pro and Enterprise, includes live translation in 60+ languages along with response help and summaries. Freddy AI Agent comes with 500 sessions on every plan.
It suits teams that want a mature ticketing tool with localized self-service at a moderate seat price. You can also run Aftersales Agent inside Freshdesk.
- Best for
- Mid-size teams that want ticketing plus a multilingual knowledge base
- Pricing
- Growth $19, Pro $55, Enterprise $89 per agent/month billed annually. Freddy AI Agent: 500 sessions included, then $49 per 100 sessions. Copilot $29/agent/month annual. See Freshdesk pricing.
- Strengths
- Multilingual helpdesk and knowledge base on Pro; Copilot translation in 60+ languages.
- Watch out for
- Multilingual features start on Pro; Copilot is a separate add-on per agent.
6. Zoho Desk: best for budget teams already on Zoho
Zoho Desk's Professional plan adds a multilingual help center that publishes knowledge base articles in over 40 languages, along with Zia, Zoho's AI. A free plan covers 3 users, and paid plans are priced per user.
It is the low-cost option for teams that mainly need localized self-service and already use Zoho CRM. Confirm how far Zia's translation goes for live replies before you rely on it.
- Best for
- Cost-conscious teams on the Zoho suite
- Pricing
- Free for 3 users; Express, Standard, Professional and Enterprise priced per user, billed annually. Prices vary by region.
- Strengths
- Help center in 40+ languages on Professional; low seat prices.
- Watch out for
- Multilingual help center not on lower plans; check translation for live conversations.
7. Crisp: best for small teams that want live chat translation out of the box
Crisp includes LiveTranslate, which translates messages in more than 50 languages inside the chat inbox, and a multilingual help center from the Essentials plan. Plans are priced per workspace, not per seat.
It is a good fit for a small team with customers in a few countries that mainly talks over chat. For an AI agent that takes actions on orders and refunds, Aftersales goes further.
- Best for
- Small, chat-first teams with international visitors
- Pricing
- Free plan; Mini $45, Essentials $95, Plus $295 per workspace/month.
- Strengths
- Message translation in 50+ languages; flat workspace pricing; multilingual help center on Essentials.
- Watch out for
- AI chatbot and help center need Essentials or above; fewer helpdesk controls than larger suites.
8. Unbabel: best for high-stakes replies that need human review
Unbabel, part of TransPerfect since August 2025, translates customer service chat, email and FAQ content by combining machine translation with a network of human editors. It scores translation quality and adds a human reviewer where the risk or quality bar calls for it, and it works inside tools such as Zendesk, Salesforce and Intercom.
Choose it over a helpdesk's built-in translation when wording carries real risk, for example in regulated industries, and you want people checking machine output. It is a translation layer, not a helpdesk or AI agent.
- Best for
- Enterprise support teams that want machine translation with human quality control
- Pricing
- Quote only.
- Strengths
- Human-in-the-loop review; quality estimation; works inside existing helpdesks.
- Watch out for
- Sales-led; human review adds time; you still need a helpdesk and an AI agent.
9. Language I/O: best for long-tail languages inside Salesforce or Zendesk
Language I/O adds real-time translation to the CRM or helpdesk you already run. It lists 150+ languages and integrations with Salesforce, Zendesk, Oracle Service Cloud, ServiceNow and Intercom, plus a Chrome extension and an API, covering chat, tickets and articles. It also offers voice translation and a toxicity filter.
If your problem is purely "our reps cannot read this language" and you will not change helpdesk, it is the most direct fix on this list. It does not resolve conversations on its own.
- Best for
- Enterprise teams on Salesforce or Zendesk that need many languages
- Pricing
- Per-word pricing; quote.
- Strengths
- 150+ languages; native integrations with major CRMs; chat, ticket and article translation.
- Watch out for
- Translation only: no AI agent or helpdesk; enterprise focus.
How do you set up multilingual customer support?
Start with the languages that carry the most volume, then decide per language whether AI answers natively, reps reply through translation, or a native speaker owns it.
- Rank languages by volume. Pull three months of conversations and tag them by language. Usually a handful of languages cover most of the volume.
- Localize the help center for the top languages. The AI and customers should read the same source. Leave the long tail to translation.
- Write procedures once. In Aftersales, Agent applies the same plain-language procedure in every supported language, so a refund rule in English also covers a refund request in Spanish.
- Set escalation rules. Hand off on negative sentiment, legal language or high-value customers, whatever the language.
- Keep a glossary. Product names, plan names and legal terms should never be translated loosely.
- Review quality per language. Sample or monitor conversations by language; Insights Monitors score every conversation instead of a sample.

How much does multilingual customer support software cost?
For a 10-rep team, multilingual support usually costs seats plus AI usage, plus translation if you use a separate layer. Example, list prices billed annually. Assumptions: 10 reps, 3,000 conversations a month in six languages, AI resolves 60% of them.
- Aftersales Growth: 10 x $69 = $690 for seats, including the multilingual help center. Agent: 1,800 resolutions x $0.99 = $1,782. Copilot for all 10 reps so they can translate every escalation: 10 x $29 = $290. Total about $2,762 a month. Without Copilot, each rep still gets 10 translation conversations a month included.
- Intercom Advanced: 10 x $85 = $850 for seats, including the multilingual help center. Fin: 1,800 outcomes x $0.99 = $1,782. Total about $2,632 a month before any SMS, WhatsApp or phone usage. Confirm whether inbox translation needs an add-on.
- Zendesk Suite Professional: 10 x $115 = $1,150 for seats, which is the tier with the 40+ language help center. It includes 50 automated resolutions; the other 1,750 are billed per resolution on top.
- Translation layers (Unbabel, Language I/O): priced by quote or per word, on top of your helpdesk seats.
The bigger lever is resolution rate in each language. Measure it per language, not just overall; our resolution rate guide explains how.
