What is an AI copilot for customer support?
An AI copilot for customer support is an assistant that sits inside the agent's workspace and helps a human rep answer faster: it drafts replies, summarizes long threads, suggests knowledge articles and translates messages. The rep stays in charge and decides what gets sent. That is the difference from an AI agent, which answers customers on its own.
Most support teams end up using both. An AI agent handles the routine share of conversations, and a copilot helps people with everything that gets handed off, which tends to be the harder, longer conversations. The four jobs a copilot should do well:
- Drafts: a reply written from your help center, past conversations and internal notes, ideally with the sources shown so the rep can check them.
- Summaries: a short recap of a long thread, or of what an AI agent already tried before handing off.
- Knowledge suggestions: the right article, macro or policy surfaced while the rep is reading, not after they search for it.
- Translation: reading and replying in the customer's language without a separate tool.
Copilots are usually sold per rep, not per conversation. The most common list price on this page is $29 per rep a month on annual billing, which is what both Aftersales and Intercom charge. For broader platform comparisons see our list of the best AI customer service software.
How do the best AI copilots for customer support compare?
Pick the copilot that lives in the helpdesk you plan to keep. Aftersales suits teams that want the copilot, AI agent and inbox in one product. If you are staying on Zendesk, Salesforce, Freshdesk or Intercom, their native copilots or Assembled Assist avoid a migration, and voice-heavy contact centers should look at Cresta.

How did we compare these AI copilots?
We read each vendor's own pricing page and product pages in October 2026 and compared them on what a support lead actually has to decide:
- Draft quality and grounding: what the copilot drafts from (help center, past conversations, internal docs) and whether it shows its sources so a rep can check before sending.
- Summaries and handoffs: whether it can recap a long thread, and what a rep sees when an AI agent hands a conversation over.
- Knowledge suggestions: whether it surfaces articles and procedures while the rep works.
- Translation: whether reps can reply in the customer's language inside the same view.
- Where it works: inside one helpdesk only, or across several.
- Pricing: published per-rep prices where they exist. Where a vendor only quotes, we say so instead of guessing.
Aftersales is our product and is listed first. Every entry below, including ours, says where another tool is the better fit.
The 10 best AI copilots for customer support in 2026
1. Aftersales: best for teams that want copilot, AI agent and helpdesk in one place
Aftersales is an AI customer service platform. Copilot drafts replies that cite their sources, summarizes conversations and translates in 31 languages, including right-to-left scripts, inside the Aftersales Inbox. Because Agent runs in the same product, a handed-off conversation arrives with the data Agent looked up and what it already tried attached, so the rep does not start from zero.
Copilot drafts from Knowledge, the one source Aftersales uses for the AI agent, the human team and the help center, so a fix to an article improves Agent answers and Copilot drafts at once. Aftersales says teams using Copilot on every conversation see a 2.4x faster median reply (its own figure). Every plan includes 10 Copilot and 10 translation conversations per rep each month, so you can test it before paying for the add-on.
The limits are real. Copilot works in the Aftersales Inbox, so a team that will not leave Zendesk, Salesforce or Freshdesk is better served by that helpdesk's own copilot or by Assembled Assist (Aftersales can still run Agent inside those helpdesks without a migration). Aftersales does not offer live call coaching for large voice contact centers; Cresta is built for that. And on price, Copilot costs the same $29 per rep as Intercom's.
- Best for
- Support teams of 3 to 100 on email, chat, WhatsApp, SMS, social and phone who want one product for the AI agent, the copilot and the shared inbox
- Pricing
- Copilot $29/rep/month billed annually ($35 monthly) on top of a seat: Starter $24, Growth $69, Scale $109 per seat/month annually. 10 Copilot and 10 translation conversations per rep per month included on every plan. Agent $0.99 per resolution. Free plan and 14-day trial.
- Strengths
- Drafts cite their sources. Summaries plus full handoff context from Agent. Translation in 31 languages. One Knowledge source for AI, reps and help center. Same inbox scores AI and human conversations with Monitors (Growth and up).
- Watch out for
- Only works in the Aftersales Inbox, so moving helpdesks is part of the decision. No real-time voice coaching. Copilot is a paid add-on beyond the included allowance.
Try Copilot on your own tickets.Every plan includes 10 Copilot conversations per rep a month. Start a 14-day free trial.
2. Intercom Copilot: best for teams already on Intercom
Intercom Copilot sits in the Intercom inbox and answers rep questions from your help center, articles, URLs, PDFs, macros, past conversations and synced Notion, Guru or Confluence content. It links its top sources so reps can check an answer before using it. Pricing is published and matches Aftersales: $29 per agent a month on annual billing or $35 monthly, with 10 Copilot and 10 auto-translation conversations per agent a month included.
If your team already runs on Intercom and uses Fin, Copilot is the obvious add-on. The catch is the seat price underneath it: Intercom seats run $29 (Essential), $85 (Advanced) and $132 (Expert) a month. See our Intercom pricing breakdown and Intercom alternative page for the full cost picture.
- Best for
- Teams already on Intercom and Fin
- Pricing
- Copilot $29/agent/month annual ($35 monthly); seats $29, $85 or $132/month; Fin $0.99 per outcome. Checked October 2026.
- Strengths
- Drafts from past conversations and synced internal docs. Sources linked in the answer. Published, simple pricing.
- Watch out for
- Works in the Intercom inbox only. Total cost depends heavily on seat tier.
3. Zendesk Copilot: best for large Zendesk teams that want triage and actions
Zendesk Copilot is an add-on for Zendesk Suite Professional and above. Its auto assist suggests next steps, drafts responses and can run approved actions such as updating fields, while intelligent triage classifies requests by intent, sentiment and language for routing. It is the most workflow-heavy of the native helpdesk copilots.
It is also the priciest published copilot here, at $50 per agent a month on annual billing, on top of Suite Professional at $115 per agent a month (annual). For a large Zendesk team that will use triage and actions, that can be worth it. Smaller teams should compare total cost first; our Zendesk pricing guide breaks it down.
- Best for
- Zendesk teams on Professional or higher with heavy routing and repeatable procedures
- Pricing
- Copilot add-on $50/agent/month billed annually; Suite Team $55, Professional $115 per agent/month annual. Checked October 2026.
- Strengths
- Auto assist with next steps and approved actions. Intelligent triage by intent, sentiment and language. Deep Zendesk ecosystem.
- Watch out for
- Highest published copilot price on this list. Requires Professional or above. Zendesk only.
4. Freshdesk Freddy AI Copilot: best value for teams on Freshdesk
Freddy AI Copilot is Freshworks' rep-facing assistant for Freshdesk, sold as an add-on at $29 per agent a month (annual) on the Pro and Enterprise plans. It covers reply suggestions, conversation summaries and writing help inside the Freshdesk agent workspace.
Freshdesk Pro is $55 per agent a month on annual billing, so a Pro seat with Copilot lands at $84, which is lower than most helpdesk-plus-copilot combinations. It is not available as an add-on on the Growth plan. See Freshdesk pricing for plan details.
- Best for
- Mid-size teams already on Freshdesk Pro or Enterprise
- Pricing
- Copilot $29/agent/month annual on Pro ($55) and Enterprise ($89). Freddy AI Agent: 500 sessions included, then $49 per 100. Checked October 2026.
- Strengths
- Low combined seat-plus-copilot price. Part of a mature helpdesk with a large app marketplace.
- Watch out for
- Not on the Growth plan. Freshdesk only.
5. Salesforce Agentforce for Service: best for enterprises on Service Cloud
Salesforce sells its rep-facing AI for Service Cloud under Agentforce. The pricing page lists Service Replies, enhanced summaries and article recommendations as purchasable on several editions, plus a Service Rep Assistant. The Max edition at $550 per user a month bundles the rep assistant and service agent templates.
For a team whose case data, entitlements and customer records already live in Salesforce, a copilot that reads that data natively is hard to beat. For everyone else it is the heaviest option here, both in price and in admin effort. Compare it with Zendesk in Zendesk vs Salesforce Service Cloud.
- Best for
- Enterprises with case management and customer data already in Salesforce
- Pricing
- Service Cloud from $25 (Starter Suite) to $550 (Max) per user/month annual; most rep AI features are add-ons, bundled in Max. Checked October 2026.
- Strengths
- Grounded in Salesforce records. Replies, summaries and article recommendations in the console.
- Watch out for
- Expensive and admin-heavy. Pricing for individual AI features is not published on the pricing page.
6. Front Copilot: best for shared-inbox teams handling email at volume
Front is a shared inbox that many B2B and operations teams use for customer email. Every Front plan includes AI compose, translate and summarize (200 uses per person a day each). Copilot, a real-time assistant that answers rep questions and drafts replies, is a $20 per seat add-on on Starter and Professional and is included on Enterprise.
That makes Front the cheapest copilot add-on we found, and Enterprise ($105 per seat annual) the simplest bundle if you also want its Smart QA. Front is weaker as a full helpdesk for chat-heavy consumer support. See Front alternatives and Front vs Zendesk.
- Best for
- Email-first B2B, account management and operations teams
- Pricing
- Starter $25, Professional $65, Enterprise $105 per seat/month annual. Copilot $20/seat add-on on Starter and Professional, included on Enterprise. Checked October 2026.
- Strengths
- Summaries, compose and translate on every plan. Cheapest copilot add-on. Strong collaboration on email.
- Watch out for
- Daily caps on included AI actions. Less suited to high-volume consumer chat support.
7. Help Scout AI: best for small teams that want AI included in the seat
Help Scout does not sell a separate copilot. AI Drafts (replies based on past conversations and help content) and AI Summarize are included on its paid plans, and AI Assist for expanding, shortening, editing and translating text is unlimited on paid plans. Plans are $25, $45 and $75 per user a month on monthly billing, with a discount for annual billing.
For a small team, getting drafts and summaries without an add-on is the cheapest route on this list. The trade-off is depth: there is no workflow-heavy assist like Zendesk's, and the free plan does not include drafts or summaries. See Help Scout alternatives.
- Best for
- Small, email-centric teams who want drafts and summaries with no add-on
- Pricing
- Free (up to 5 users, no AI Drafts), Standard $25, Plus $45, Pro $75 per user/month monthly billing; about 16% less annually. AI Answers bot $0.75 per resolution. Checked October 2026.
- Strengths
- AI Drafts and AI Summarize included on paid plans. Simple, friendly helpdesk.
- Watch out for
- Lighter copilot than the enterprise options. No drafts on the free plan.
8. HubSpot Service Hub (Breeze): best for teams already running on HubSpot CRM
HubSpot's help desk includes reply recommendations and summaries for reps on Service Hub Professional and Enterprise, alongside its Customer Agent for automated answers. The advantage is context: a rep sees the full CRM record, deals and marketing history next to the AI suggestion.
Professional is $90 per seat a month and Enterprise $150, and AI usage draws on HubSpot credits (3,000 a month included on Professional). If your company already lives in HubSpot it is a natural fit; as a standalone support tool it is costly. See Intercom vs HubSpot and HubSpot Service Hub alternatives.
- Best for
- Companies whose sales and marketing already run on HubSpot
- Pricing
- Service Hub Professional $90, Enterprise $150 per seat/month; AI features use HubSpot credits (3,000/month on Professional, 5,000 on Enterprise, extra at $0.01 each). Checked October 2026.
- Strengths
- Reply suggestions grounded in CRM data. One platform for sales, marketing and service.
- Watch out for
- Reply recommendations need Professional or above. Credit-based AI usage is harder to forecast.
9. Assembled Assist: best copilot that works across several helpdesks
Assembled is best known for workforce management, and Assembled Assist is its AI copilot. It drafts replies, translates in real time, summarizes tickets and fills wrap-up templates, offers knowledge search and agent guidance, and has one-click tone modifiers. It works alongside Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud, Intercom, Freshdesk, ServiceNow and major telephony providers.
This is the strongest option on the list if you run more than one helpdesk, or want a single copilot across a BPO and an in-house team without migrating anyone. Copilot starts at $35 per agent a month, and you still pay for the helpdesk underneath.
- Best for
- Teams on more than one helpdesk, or BPO plus in-house setups, who want one copilot everywhere
- Pricing
- AI Copilot from $35/agent/month; AI agents from $0.65 per conversation; workforce management from $25/agent/month. Checked October 2026.
- Strengths
- Works across major helpdesks without migration. Pairs with Assembled's workforce management.
- Watch out for
- An extra vendor on top of your helpdesk. Published price is a starting point.
10. Cresta Agent Assist: best for large voice contact centers
Cresta is built for enterprise contact centers in sectors such as airlines, financial services, insurance, telecom and healthcare. Agent Assist listens to live calls and chats and gives reps behavioral guidance, source-backed knowledge answers and instant customizable summaries to cut after-call work.
None of the helpdesk copilots above coach a rep during a live phone call the way Cresta does. If most of your volume is voice and you have hundreds of agents, it belongs on your shortlist. Pricing is quote only.
- Best for
- Enterprise contact centers with large voice volumes
- Pricing
- Quote only; no published pricing. Checked October 2026.
- Strengths
- Real-time guidance during live calls. Knowledge answers grounded in sources. Customizable summaries.
- Watch out for
- Enterprise sales process and pricing. More than a small digital support team needs.
How much does an AI copilot for customer support cost?
For a 10-rep team, a helpdesk seat plus a copilot ranges from about $450 to $1,650 a month at list prices. The table uses each vendor's published annual-billing prices except where noted, and assumes every rep gets the copilot.
| Setup (10 reps) | Seat | Copilot | Monthly total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aftersales Growth + Copilot | $69 | $29 | $980 |
| Intercom Advanced + Copilot | $85 | $29 | $1,140 |
| Zendesk Suite Professional + Copilot | $115 | $50 | $1,650 |
| Freshdesk Pro + Freddy AI Copilot | $55 | $29 | $840 |
| Front Professional + Copilot | $65 | $20 | $850 |
| Help Scout Plus (AI Drafts included) | $45 (monthly billing) | Included | $450 |
| HubSpot Service Hub Professional | $90 | Included, uses credits | $900 |
Example only. List prices checked October 2026, per rep per month. Excludes AI agent usage, phone, taxes and discounts.
Two things change the real bill. First, the AI agent: Aftersales charges $0.99 per resolution and conversations Agent can't help with are free, so a high resolution rate shrinks the human workload the copilot has to support. Second, whether you need every rep on the copilot. On Aftersales, reps who only handle a few conversations can stay within the 10 included Copilot conversations a month. See Aftersales pricing for the full plan list.
Which AI copilot is best for your team?
Match the copilot to the helpdesk you will keep and the channel mix you run.
- One product for AI agent, copilot and inbox: Aftersales.
- Already on Intercom: Intercom Copilot.
- Large Zendesk team that wants triage and actions: Zendesk Copilot.
- Lowest cost on an established helpdesk: Freshdesk with Freddy AI Copilot, or Front with its $20 Copilot.
- Small team, AI included in the seat: Help Scout.
- Company runs on a CRM already: Salesforce Agentforce for Service or HubSpot Service Hub.
- Several helpdesks or a BPO in the mix: Assembled Assist.
- Large voice contact center: Cresta Agent Assist.
- Ecommerce teams handling order questions: pair a copilot with an AI agent that can act on orders; see the best AI agents for ecommerce support.
How do you roll out an AI copilot to a support team?
Roll a copilot out in a few weeks by fixing your knowledge first, then measuring reply time and edit rate per rep.
- Clean up the sources. A copilot drafts from your help center, macros and past replies. Retire outdated articles and conflicting macros before turning it on.
- Start with summaries and translation. They save time with little risk, and reps trust them quickly.
- Turn on drafts for one queue. Pick a queue with repeatable questions and ask reps to check the cited sources before sending.
- Track edit rate. If reps rewrite most drafts on a topic, the knowledge behind that topic needs fixing.
- Score quality on every conversation. Use QA on AI-assisted replies too; see the best customer service QA software.
- Measure the outcome. Compare median reply time, CSAT and resolution rate before and after, by rep.
